Print Server Installation Notes
I've tried to install two print servers to network a desktop PC and two laptops to a Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless Router. One laptop runs XP Home, the other runs Vista Home Basic, the desktop runs Windows 98, the printer is an HP OfficeJet G85.
The first Wireless Print Server I tried was a Linksys WPS54G. The box indicated it would work with Windows XP and the Office Depot clerk advised it would also work with Vista. After following the Quick Start Installation, it was not finding my printer, so I chatted with Linksys tech support, and they have advised me to use the WPSM54G for the print server to be compatible with Vista.
Next I tried a Belkin Network USB Hub and it did not work either. The installation was a snap, the product however did not communicate with the Linksys Router. On the box, the Belkin product reads 'works with all wireless routers', I found that hard to believe, so I tried it out, and sure enough, it wasn't true. I believe the marketing should read, 'works with all Belkin wireless routers'. After I send the print job and it resulted in an error, my networked laptops began to indicate an IP conflict and I had to reset the router.
